Zakopane is an absolute dream destination in Poland. The place is a popular starting point for winter sports and attracts mountaineers and hikers in summer. With its picturesque landscape and its own architectural style, the Zakopane Style, that makes the place one of the most beautiful places in Poland. Zakopane is definitely worth a visit with its mountain ranges like the High Tatras and alpine lakes like Morskie Oko.
Zakopane is located around 100 kilometers from Krakow and is one of the southernmost cities and the highest city in Poland. The place is also known because the Ski Jumping World Cup takes place here every year. Zakopane = the winter capital of Poland. We spent two days here and the place immediately enchanted us and we were absolutely thrilled. The best way to arrive is by car, train or bus from Krakow.

The best and easiest way to get to Zakopane is by bus or car. Krakow is around 100 kilometers from Zakopane. From here you can take a bus, which takes around three hours to get to Zakopane. By car it takes around 1.5 hours.
The best time to travel here is all year round. The summers are lovely and warm and you can do lots of outdoor activities. But spring and autumn are also highly recommended. It is also beautiful in winter. The months from November to February have a special vibe, especially when the many wooden houses in the Zakopane style are covered in snow.
A place that is very touristy and therefore a bit more expensive than other places in Poland. A meal for two in one of the many good restaurants here costs around 40€ – 50€.
You should spend at least 2-3 days here. Zakopane is not very big but there is a lot to see and do.
