Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a charming place in the north of Bavaria. With around 12,000 inhabitants, the small town with cobbled streets and beautiful half-timbered houses is beautiful to look at. Rothenburg is located on the small river Tauber and on the famous Romantic Road, which goes from Würzburg via Rothenburg o. d. Tauber to Füssen. In total, there are 29 towns along the Romantic Road. There are also great views around the medieval town, especially from the city walls.
There are many really beautiful hotels in the city, some of which are still in the old style of the city. Did you know that Rothenburg ob der Tauber is known as a Franconian wine town? The wine produced is mainly sold to tourists. Due to the well-preserved old town, the city has often served as a backdrop for numerous film productions. A very charming place that we can definitely recommend to you.

Rothenburg
How to get there
The best way to get to Rothenburg is by car, train or bus. The train station is about a kilometer away on foot from the center. If you are coming from further away, there is no direct train to Rothenburg. You have to change in one of the surrounding towns. If you are traveling by car, you can easily park outside the old town.
Best time to visit
All seasons can be beautiful here. However, we recommend the off-season, early spring (March, April) or late autumn (October, November). It is not as crowded as in summer or winter and the temperatures are still relatively pleasant. Did you know that Rothenburg has one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany?
How expensive is Rothenburg
The city is heavily influenced by tourism. Prices are a little higher here, but still not as high as in Munich, for example. A delicious lunch in a good restaurant costs around €15-20 per person.
How much time to spend here
We spent one night here and can highly recommend the Hotel Eisenhut in the middle of the old town. Rothenburg is a lovely place for a day trip. A morning or afternoon is perfect for this small but charming town.
