Koper is a Slovenian port city with around 25.000 inhabitants and is located on the country’s Adriatic coast. Koper is also known as the city of a thousand suns, which adorn the medieval Venetian palaces. It is the largest city on the Slovenian coast and at the same time it has the largest and most important port in the country. There are also some beautiful sights that you should definitely check out. It is a city with a special charm and flair.
This lovely place is also a good starting point to explore the surrounding region. For example, to the other two beautiful coastal towns of Piran and Izola or maybe even to Trieste in Italy, just 20 kilometers away. Simply stroll along the long promenade or enjoy a cool drink in one of the countless good bars and café’s.

Koper is easy to reach, but best done by car. The port city does not have its own international airport. However, the nearest airport is in Trieste, Italy, just 65 km away. There are also good transport connections from Ljubljana (about 105 km away) by car or bus.
The best time to visit Slovenia’s Adriatic is between May and September, when temperatures are warm and there is less rain. July and August are when temperatures are at their highest and when the most tourists come.
Koper tends to be cheaper than other popular tourist destinations on the Adriatic coast, such as Piran, Rovinj, Trieste or Poreč, but there are still price differences depending on the season. A double room in a standard hotel costs around 150-200€ per night per person.
