Where is Valldemossa?

Valldemossa is located in the northwest of Mallorca, tucked into the Tramuntana mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village sits about 17 kilometers from Palma, which takes around 30–40 minutes by car, depending on traffic. Its elevated position gives Valldemossa stunning views over the surrounding hills and valleys.
The town feels wonderfully compact, and it’s easy to explore on foot. From nearby towns like Deià or Sóller, it’s just a short drive or scenic hike, making it a perfect stop when exploring the Tramuntana. We love how every corner of Valldemossa feels timeless, with narrow streets, charming squares, and traditional stone houses.

Reaching Valldemossa is part of the experience and quite easy actually. The journey through the mountains of Mallorca is scenic and already feels like the beginning of something special. We will tell you how to get to Valldemossa easily.

By Car - The Most Flexible Option

We actually always come here by car and find that driving is the easiest and most flexible way to reach Valldemossa. The village is located in the stunning Serra de Tramuntana mountains, about 30 minutes from Palma de Mallorca.

The scenic Ma-1110 road connects Palma directly to Valldemossa and offers breathtaking mountain views along the way. Having a car allows us to explore nearby viewpoints, hidden coves, and surrounding villages at our own pace.

  • Parking tip: There are public parking areas just outside (but quite close) the historic center. In high season, we recommend arriving early to secure a spot.
  • Best for: Flexibility, day trips, exploring the Tramuntana region
    Travel time from Palma: approx. 25-35 minutes, depending on the traffic.

By Bus - Easy and Budget-Friendly

If you prefer not to drive, the public bus is a convenient and affordable alternative. Bus line 203 runs regularly between Palma and Valldemossa.

The journey takes around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic, and offers beautiful views of the mountain landscape. It’s a relaxed and sustainable way to travel, especially if you’re staying in Palma.

  • Best for: Budget travelers, sustainable travel, no parking hassles
  • Travel time from Palma: approx. 35 minutes
  • Tickets & Price: Currently (Feb. 2026), a single ticket costs between €3.60 and €6.00. It’s best to buy directly from the driver, or with an intermodal ticket (TIB network ticket), the price is significantly cheaper, around €1.80.

By Bike - For Active and sporty Travelers

Many cyclists stop off in Valldemossa. For those of you who love cycling, reaching Valldemossa by bike is absolutely possible, but it’s not a flat ride. The climb into the Tramuntana mountains can be challenging, especially in warmer months.

The scenic roads and sweeping views make it a rewarding adventure. We recommend this option only if we’re confident cyclists and prepared for elevation gain.

  • Best for: Experienced cyclists, adventure seekers
  • Difficulty level: Moderate to challenging
  • Classic Tramuntana Route: Palma – Valldemossa – Deià – Sóller (One of the Most Popular Routes).
  • Alternative: Palma – Valldemossa – Puigpunyent Loop

Hiking to Valldemossa

If you truly want to immerse yourself in Mallorca’s nature, hiking to Valldemossa is an unforgettable experience. Several long-distance trails cross the Serra de Tramuntana, including sections of the famous GR221 route.

Walking through olive groves, stone terraces, and mountain paths gives us a deeper connection to the landscape and arriving in Valldemossa on foot feels incredibly rewarding.

  • Best for: Nature lovers, slow travelers
    Tip: Start early, wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water, especially in summer.

Best Time to visit Valldemossa

Valldemossa is beautiful all year round, each season offers a completely different atmosphere, and that’s exactly what makes this mountain village so special. No matter when you visit Valldemossa, you will always find something to love.

Spring (March - May)

Spring is one of the best times to visit. The village comes alive, flowers bloom, and everything feels fresh and green. Midday temperatures often rise above 20°C (68°F), making it ideal for exploring.
If you enjoy cycling or hiking, this is a perfect season, the weather is pleasant and it’s not too crowded yet.

Best for: Mild weather, outdoor activities, fewer tourists

Summer (June - August)

Summer is the most popular time to visit and it can get very busy. Day-trippers from Palma de Mallorca and other parts of Mallorca fill the village, especially around midday.
Temperatures can be very hot, so we recommend arriving before 10 AM to avoid both the heat and the biggest crowds.

Best for: Vibrant atmosphere, sunny days, long evenings
Tip: Visit early in the morning

Autumn (September - November)

Autumn feels similar to spring. The intense summer heat fades, but the weather often stays warm and pleasant. The village becomes calmer again, making it a wonderful time for relaxed exploring, hiking, and photography.

Best for: Comfortable temperatures, balanced atmosphere, hiking

Winter (December - February)

Winter is the quietest season in Valldemossa. The village feels peaceful and authentic, and you can wander the streets without crowds. However, you should expect that some cafés, restaurants, and hotels may be closed.
It’s a great time for hiking in the surrounding Serra de Tramuntana, as temperatures are cooler and perfect for outdoor activities.

Tip: In February, you might even experience the beautiful almond blossom season, when the landscape turns white and pink.

If you want to wake up surrounded by cobblestone streets and traditional stone houses, staying in the old town is the perfect choice. We love how peaceful Valldemossa feels in the early morning before day visitors arrive and if you stay overnight, you get to experience exactly that.

Boutique hotels in the center often combine historic architecture with modern comfort. You’ll be within walking distance of the main sights, cafés, and local bakeries.

Best for: Romantic getaways, short stays, first-time visitors

We can recommend the *Es Petit Hotel de Valldemossa. A great little hotel, very friendly hosts, beautiful rooms with fantastic views and a great terrace.
