How to Get There
Sóller & Port de Sóller
Sóller and Port de Sóller are surprisingly easy to reach, and getting there is part of the experience. No matter if we arrive by car, train, bus, bike, or even on foot, the journey is incredibly scenic, with mountain views, winding roads, and glimpses of the Mediterranean along the way.
By Car
Driving to Sóller is one of the quickest and most flexible options. From Palma, it takes around 30 minutes via the tunnel through the Tramuntana mountains. The road is smooth and easy, but if we prefer a more scenic route, we can take the old mountain road with its famous curves and viewpoints. From Sóller, it’s only about 10 minutes by car to Port de Sóller.
Parking can be limited during summer, so arriving early is a good idea.
By Train (Tren de Sóller)
One of the most beautiful ways to reach Sóller is by taking the historic wooden train from Palma. The Tren de Sóller has been running since 1912 and slowly winds its way through the mountains, orange groves, and tunnels. The ride takes about an hour and feels like stepping back in time.
From Sóller, you can continue to Port de Sóller (final stop) on the charming old tram that runs directly to the harbor.
There are regular buses from Palma to Sóller, which are affordable and reliable. The journey takes roughly 35-50 minutes, depending on traffic. Buses also connect Sóller and Port de Sóller, making it easy to travel between the town and the beach without a car.
You can buy tickets directly when boarding the bus. Many services accept contactless card payment, but it’s a good idea to have some cash ready just in case (especially on certain lines).
For a return trip you should expect around €8-15 euros, still far cheaper than many other transport options.
On Foot (Hiking)
For those who love hiking, Sóller is a dream destination. There are several scenic trails through the Serra de Tramuntana that connect nearby villages like Biniaraix or Fornalutx. Walking to Port de Sóller from Sóller is also possible and takes around 1-1.5 hours, depending on the route and your pace. The views along the way make it absolutely worth it.
By Bicycle
Cycling to Sóller is popular, especially among road cyclists. The mountain roads offer challenging climbs but reward cyclists with breathtaking views. Whether cycling from Palma or exploring the area around Sóller, it’s a fantastic way to experience the landscape at your own pace.
The most popular seasons for cycling in Mallorca are usually spring (April, May) and autumn (October, November), when temperatures are pleasant.
What to See and Do in Sóller
Sóller may be small, but there is so much to explore and its so so gorgeous. From historic architecture to scenic viewpoints and charming streets, we found ourselves slowing down and simply enjoying the atmosphere of this beautiful mountain town.
Plaça Constitució & Sant Bartomeu Church
The heart of Sóller is its lively main square, Plaça Constitució. This is where we like to start our visit. Surrounded by cafés and framed by the impressive Church of Sant Bartomeu, the square has a relaxed yet vibrant energy.
Sitting here with a coffee and watching the historic tram pass by feels like stepping back in time.
Wander Through the Old Town
One of our favorite things (always) to do in Sóller is simply getting lost in the narrow streets. The stone houses, wooden shutters, and small boutiques give the town its authentic Mallorcan charm. Around every corner, there’s another photogenic doorway or quiet courtyard waiting to be discovered.
Ride the Historic Tramuntana Railway
The Tren de Sóller is more than just transportation, it’s an experience. Even if we didn’t arrive by train from Palma, seeing the historic wooden carriages roll through town is a highlight. If we have the time, taking a short ride is absolutely worth it.
Visit Ecovinyassa (Orange Groves)
Sóller is known as the “Valley of Oranges,” and visiting an orange farm like Ecovinyassa offers a deeper insight into the region’s agricultural roots. Walking through the green groves with the mountains in the background feels peaceful and authentic. It’s a beautiful way to connect with nature and learn more about the area.
Good to know: You should definitely buy your tickets online in advance on the official website. Currently (February 2026), the price is €22 per person.
Parking is included on-site, and the price also includes orange juice, snacks, and of course, the tour itself.
Depending on the season, you can see and sometimes taste different varieties of oranges, lemons, and other fruits grown on the property. The self-guided tour allows us to explore at our own pace, stopping to enjoy the views or simply soak in the calm atmosphere.
For us, Ecovinyassa is the perfect contrast to the lively town center, quiet, green, and incredibly scenic. It’s a beautiful way to connect with nature and understand what makes Sóller so special.
Explore Biniaraix
Just outside Sóller lies the tiny village of Biniaraix. With its cobblestone streets and stone houses, it feels even more traditional and quiet. We love coming here for a short walk or to start one of the many hiking trails into the Tramuntana mountains.
The best way to get there is with a short hike from Soller to Biniaraix. The approximately 2-kilometer trail leads through the valley and offers truly stunning views.
💡Tip: In the heart of the small village is Bar Bodega Biniaraix, with a small, charming menu and good snacks and drinks. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle.
Go Hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana
If we enjoy being active, Sóller is the perfect base. There are numerous hiking routes with breathtaking views over the valley and towards the sea. Whether it’s a short scenic walk or a longer mountain hike, the landscape is always impressive.

The curved bay of Port de Sóller is ideal for a beach day. The water is usually calm and clear, making it perfect for swimming. We love spending a slow morning here, enjoying the sea views surrounded by mountains.
Walk Along the Promenade
The promenade runs along the entire bay and is lined with restaurants, cafés, and small shops. A relaxed walk here, especially in the late afternoon, is one of our favorite things to do. The atmosphere feels laid-back and Mediterranean.
Enjoy Fresh Seafood
Being right by the harbor, Port de Sóller is known for fresh seafood. Sitting at a restaurant overlooking the boats while the sun slowly sets is something we highly recommend. It’s simple, but it feels special.

Take a Boat Trip
From the port, we can join boat tours that explore the rugged coastline and hidden coves nearby. Seeing the cliffs and turquoise water from the sea gives a completely new perspective of the island.
Visit the Lighthouse (Far del Cap Gros)
For one of the best views over the bay, we can head up to the Cap Gros lighthouse. Whether by car or on foot, the panoramic view of Port de Sóller and the surrounding mountains is absolutely worth it.
From the promenade, it’s about a 2.5-kilometer walk, a leisurely 30-45 minute stroll to the lighthouse (Far del Cap Gros).
You can also drive up. Along the way to the lighthouse, you’ll find several charming restaurants with stunning views.
Sunset by the Harbor
If there’s one thing we wouldn’t skip, it’s staying for sunset. As the light turns golden and reflects on the water, Port de Sóller becomes even more magical. It’s the perfect way to end the day.
Best Time to visit Sóller
Sóller is beautiful all year round, and every season has its own special charm. No matter when you visit, the town, the valley, port and the surrounding mountains offer unique experiences, from quiet walks to lively summer evenings.
Spring (March - May)
Spring is one of our favorite times to visit. The weather is perfect for hiking and cycling, and the valley is bursting with greenery. Around February, the almond trees bloom, creating beautiful landscapes and incredible photo opportunities. Spring is also a great time to ride the Tren de Sóller the scenery is at its best, and the train is less crowded than in summer.
Summer (June - August)
Summer is for long days, beach visits, and outdoor dining. The town is bustling, full of tourists, and temperatures can get quite high. We love it for the lively evenings, sitting at a café or restaurant, and enjoying the Mediterranean atmosphere. However, the crowds mean it’s best to explore early in the morning or later in the evening.
Autumn (September - November)
Autumn in Sóller feels like a second spring. The weather is still warm, the sea is perfect for swimming, and the valley is peaceful again as the summer crowds fade. Hiking and cycling remain enjoyable, and the Tren de Sóller rides are scenic without the peak-season rush. It’s the perfect balance of nice weather and calm vibes.
Winter (December - February)
Winter in Sóller is peaceful and relaxed. Many restaurants and shops close for the season, but that’s precisely what makes it charming for a quiet escape. Daytime temperatures can be surprisingly mild, perfect for short hikes or exploring the streets without the crowds.
It’s also the time to admire the almond blossom, generally around February. It often feels like spring.

We find these places perfect for a relaxing stay after a day of hiking or exploring nearby villages. The personal touches and friendly staff make it feel like a home away from home.
For a quieter and more private stay, we recommend choosing a finca in the countryside. Surrounded by orange and lemon trees with views of the Serra de Tramuntana, it feels peaceful and very authentic. This option is perfect if you want to relax, enjoy nature, or spend time by a pool after hiking.

What to Expect & Nice to know
Dinner usually starts around 19:30-20:30
Reservations are highly recommended in summer
Local specialties to try: grilled fish, tumbet, pa amb oli, fresh seafood, and of course anything with local citrus
In summer it can still be very, very warm in the evenings.
Prices in Sóller are slightly higher than in less touristy towns, but still fair for the quality.
If we’re staying outside the center and driving in for dinner, parking can be limited near the old town. It’s easier to park slightly outside and walk in.
Sitting outside in Summer on warm nights, with soft lighting and a glass of local wine, is one of our favorite experiences here.
Tips for Visiting
Visiting Sóller and Port de Sóller is fairly easy, but a few small tips can make a big difference. Whether we’re coming for a day trip or staying longer, planning it right helps us avoid crowds, make the most of the scenery, and truly enjoy the atmosphere.
Plan to Combine Town & Port
We highly recommend combining Sóller and Port de Sóller in one day, they’re only about 6.5 km apart and perfectly complement each other. We usually start in Sóller in the morning when the old town is still quiet. Exploring the cobbled streets early feels much more authentic. Then, in the afternoon, we head down to the port for sea views, beach time, or a relaxed dinner by the water. This way, we get mountains and Mediterranean vibes in one day.
Go Early in High Season
Summer (especially July and August) can get busy. Day visitors arrive mid-morning, and by noon the main square in Sóller is often crowded.
Arriving early, ideally before 10am makes a huge difference. The light is softer, cafés are calmer, and we can enjoy the charm of the town without the rush.
The same goes for the historic train and tram. During high season, tickets sell out quickly. Booking in advance or choosing an early departure saves time and stress.
Wear Comfortable Shoes
Sóller is beautiful, but it’s not flat. The old town streets are cobbled, and if we plan to explore nearby villages like Biniaraix or do even a short walk into the Serra de Tramuntana, proper shoes are essential.
Or just bring a backpack with comfortable shoes.
Parking Can Be Tricky
If we’re arriving by car, it’s good to know that parking in the old town is limited. There are public parking areas slightly outside the center, and from there it’s an easy walk in. In summer, arriving earlier in the day makes parking much easier.
In Port de Sóller there are one or two larger parking spaces around the beach and promenade.
Stay for Sunset in Port de Sóller
If there’s one thing we always recommend: don’t leave too early. Sunset in Port de Sóller is special. The mountains surrounding the bay glow in warm light, the water reflects golden tones, and the whole atmosphere slows down. Sitting along the promenade with a drink while the sky changes color is one of those simple Mallorca moments that stays with us.
Consider the Season
Each season offers a different experience:
Spring: Perfect for hiking, cycling, and orange blossoms.
Summer: Ideal for beach days and long evenings outside, but hot and busy.
Autumn: Similar to spring, calmer and great for exploring.
Winter: Very quiet, peaceful, but some restaurants and hotels may be closed.
If we prefer fewer crowds and milder temperatures, spring and autumn are ideal.
Slow Down and Enjoy
Our biggest tip? Don’t rush it. Sóller isn’t a place to tick off quickly. It’s about wandering without a plan, sitting a little longer in a café, ordering another glass of wine, watching the tram pass by, and simply enjoying the mix of mountains and sea. That’s when Sóller feels the most special.
