Mallorca is located in the western Mediterranean Sea, just off the east coast of mainland Spain, and is the largest of the Balearic Islands. Thanks to its location, it’s easily accessible from most European cities, making it perfect for both short getaways and longer trips.
But Mallorca is more than just a destination on the map. From dramatic mountains in the northwest to hidden coves and quiet villages, the island offers an incredible variety in a surprisingly small space. Welcome to Mallorca, a place that’s far more diverse than most people expect.
Mallorca is well connected and easy to reach, especially from within Europe. Whether you’re planning a quick getaway or a longer stay, there are two main ways to get to the island.
Flying is the fastest and most popular option. The main airport, Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), is served by many international airlines with direct flights from major European cities. From the airport, you can easily reach most parts of the island by rental car, taxi, or public transport.
You can also reach Mallorca by ferry from mainland Spain or France. Regular connections operate from cities like Barcelona, Valencia, Toulon and Dénia to the port of Palma or Alcúdia. This is a great option if you’re traveling with your own car, camper or prefer a slower, more scenic journey.

It is an impressive garden complex in the heart of Mallorca that combines history, culture and botanical diversity. It is located near the village of Bunyola, about 18 kilometers from Palma and is a must-see for lovers of Mediterranean gardens. It is a combination of country house, park and garden. The history of the house and garden dates back to Arab times. You’ll also find a small bar serving good drinks and snacks. Jardines de Alfabia are generally open daily, but it’s recommended to check the official website for current times and admission prices.
The Albercutx Watchtower is located in the north of Mallorca, not far from Port de Pollença. On the way to Cap de Formentor, a small road leads to the Talaia d’Albercutx near the Mirador es Colomer viewpoint. Parking is limited here, and you have to climb a small ladder up the tower’s outer wall. Definitely one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Mallorca for sunrise and sunset.
The Santuari de Cura sits atop the Puig de Randa, a hill located about 30 km from Palma in central Mallorca. Unlike the dramatic peaks of the Tramuntana, this hill rises gently from the surrounding countryside, offering a peaceful retreat and sweeping panoramic views of the island, including the plains below and the distant coastline.
You can reach Santuari de Cura by car via winding but accessible roads, or for a more active adventure, by hiking up the well-marked trail from the base of the hill. Either way, the journey rewards you with one of Mallorca’s most tranquil and picturesque spots, a true hidden gem.
Nice to know: There is also a nice hotel and restaurant, cafe and bar with great views.
The mountain village of Fornalutx on Mallorca is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It is located in the Serra de Tramuntana region, about four kilometers from Sóller. The village, with its beautifully restored stone houses and stairways, is now home to around 700 people and is a popular destination for locals and tourists, with numerous charming restaurants inviting you to stop by.
The Son Marroig manor house is located between Valldemossa and Deià. It’s a dreamy spot with sea views, a beautiful white gazebo, and a small, charming garden. Right next to Son Marroig is the Sa Foradada restaurant and bar, where you can enjoy stunning views.
Entry to Son Marroig manor house usually costs only a few houses and is a cool stop with fantastic views.
The La Reserva Park nature reserve in southwest Mallorca is located near Puigpunyent and is a fantastic place with plenty of nature, animals, a climbing park and a pool. The park is usually open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and offers a wonderful circular hike where you can enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna. There’s also a small bar with cold drinks and some snacks.
In the middle of the fantastic landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana, located between Deià and Valldemossa, there is a popular destination. Sa Foradada is located next to the Son Marroig and is a peninsula in the sea, with a large hole from where you can admire one of the most beautiful sunsets. The hike down to the rock takes around 45 minutes and starts at the restaurant of the same name, which is highly recommended. However, you should reserve here in advance. Right next to the restaurant there is also a bar with unique views and good drinks … You should also reserve here, as it can be very crowded here, especially in the summer months.
Perched on a hill near the town of Felanitx, the Santuari Sant Salvador is a historic sanctuary offering one of the most spectacular panoramic views on Mallorca. Visitors can explore the monastery, admire the impressive statue of Christ that watches over the island, and take in sweeping vistas stretching across the countryside and down to the sea.
Accessible by car, guided tour or a scenic hike, this sanctuary is both a cultural and spiritual highlight of the island, combining history, architecture, and nature in a single unforgettable experience.
Nice to know: You can also stay overnight here and there is also a small sweet coffee shop where you can have breakfast and get coffee and cake.
Artà is a charming town located in the northeast of Mallorca, known for its authentic Mallorcan atmosphere and rich history. Unlike the bustling tourist hotspots, Artà offers cobbled streets, traditional stone houses, and a vibrant local market that gives visitors a real taste of island life.
Artà is also home to historic churches, artisan shops, and quiet plazas perfect for a coffee or a stroll. The local market takes place every Tuesday morning throughout the year. From approximately 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., you can buy local products around the Plaça del Conqueridor and in the surrounding streets.
Located near the town of Andratx in southwest Mallorca, Bodega Terra ión is a modern winery that combines traditional Mallorcan winemaking with innovative techniques. Surrounded by rolling hills and olive groves, the estate produces high-quality wines that reflect the island’s unique terroir.
Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, guided tours of the vineyards, and stunning views over the surrounding countryside. A lovely short walk from the village, you’ll find Es Salt des Freu, a small but stunning waterfall hidden in the lush forest. The hike to the waterfall is serene and refreshing, passing through olive groves and shaded paths. Together, Orient and Es Salt des Freu offer a perfect combination of quiet village life and nature exploration, making them one of Mallorca’s hidden gems.
Portocolom is a picturesque fishing village on the southeast coast of Mallorca, famous for its colorful waterfront houses, tranquil harbor, and authentic island charm. Unlike the more tourist-heavy resorts, Portocolom feels relaxed and local, making it a perfect spot to experience traditional Mallorcan life.
Stroll along the harbor to admire the fishing boats, enjoy fresh seafood at a local restaurant, or relax with a drink at one of the cafés along the water. Cala Rotja is a small, quiet cove on the eastern coast of Mallorca. Surrounded by pine forests and rocky cliffs, the beach offers crystal-clear water and a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a calm swim or relaxing by the shore. Access is via a short walking path from the parking area, keeping the cove secluded and mostly free from crowds.
Cala Tuent is a quiet, remote beach on Mallorca’s northwest coast, surrounded by the rugged landscape of the Tramuntana mountains. Unlike many of the island’s more popular spots, this bay feels peaceful and untouched, with crystal-clear water and a natural, stony shoreline.
The drive to Cala Tuent is part of the experience, leading through winding mountain roads and scenic views. It is almost the same route as to Sa Calobra, one of the most famous bays in Mallorca.
Enjoy good food, drinks and fantastic views from the Es Vergeret restaurant next to the bay of Cala Tuent.
One of our favorite spots is Caló de Ses Llisses, right next to Cala Fornells. Here you will find a small, scenic bay in the southwest of Mallorca, known for its clear water and rocky surroundings.
With its rocky edges and clear water, it’s a great spot for swimming and snorkeling. The peaceful setting and easy access make it a perfect place to slow down and enjoy a more untouched side of the island.
Platja des Coll Baix is a stunning beach on Mallorca’s northwest coast, framed by dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters. Accessible only by a short hike or boat, it’s a peaceful spot far from the crowds, perfect for those looking to escape the more popular beaches.
The sandy shore and turquoise water make it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the coastline. Its remote location gives the beach a serene and untouched atmosphere.
Cala del Toro is a small, lesser-known bay located in the southwest of Mallorca, near the town of El Toro. Unlike many of the island’s more popular beaches, you won’t find soft sand here, instead, it’s a rocky cove with incredibly clear, turquoise water, making it a great spot for snorkeling.
The bay feels much more untouched and quiet compared to other coastal areas, especially if you visit outside peak hours. To get there, you’ll need to park near the Mirador El Toro viewpoint and walk around 10-15 minutes along a path down to the water.
Playa S’Illot is a small, scenic beach near Alcúdia in the north of Mallorca. Known for its clear, shallow water and relaxed atmosphere, it offers a quieter alternative to the larger beaches in the area.
One of its most distinctive features is the small rocky island just a few meters from the beach, which adds to the natural charm of the bay. It’s a lovely place with a cute restaurant and beautiful surrounding area.
Cala Morlanda is a small, lesser-known cove located near Porto Cristo on Mallorca’s east coast. Surrounded by rocky cliffs and natural coastline, it offers a quiet and relaxed atmosphere away from the more crowded beaches nearby.
The clear, deep blue water makes it a great spot for swimming and snorkeling, especially for those who enjoy a more natural setting.

It’s a great spot if you’re looking for a relaxed but high-quality dining experience after exploring the area. The food is fresh, seasonal, and full of flavor, with a nice mix of local Mallorcan dishes and modern touches, making it a perfect stop for both lunch or dinner.
Vent de Tramuntana is located in the picturesque harbor town of Port d’Andratx and is a true delight for anyone who loves fresh, high-quality cuisine.
What makes it particularly appealing is its relaxed atmosphere, charming Mediterranean setting, and proximity to the harbor, making it the perfect place for a leisurely lunch or dinner after a day at the beach or exploring the surrounding area.
Perhaps you’ve already heard of or seen NENI Mallorca, and yes, it’s definitely worth a visit. Located right on the harbor, it offers a fantastic view of Port de Sóller and combines a relaxed holiday atmosphere with exciting, internationally inspired cuisine.
It’s the perfect place for lunch or dinner overlooking the sparkling sea. For us, it was one of those places where you just want to linger, watch the ocean, and simply enjoy the moment.
Cassai Gran – Café i Restaurant is located in the heart of Ses Salines and is the perfect place to enjoy authentic Mallorcan cuisine in a relaxed, stylish atmosphere. The restaurant impresses with fresh, local ingredients, creative dishes, and a friendly, welcoming ambiance – ideal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner after a stroll through the charming village.
Restaurant Es Guix is picturesquely situated between Escorca and Selva in the Tramuntana mountains and offers fresh, regional cuisine in a cozy, authentic atmosphere. The dishes combine traditional Mallorcan flavors with modern touches, making every visit a special experience.
You should definitely make a reservation in advance, but you can also simply sit on the terrace and enjoy some cool drinks or even take a dip in the unique pool.
