Spend the Perfect Day at Lake Bohinj

When we planned our visit to Lake Bohinj, we wanted to experience more than just the famous views. Instead of rushing through the area, we created a full day combining waterfalls, mountain scenery, local food, and a relaxing afternoon by the lake.

Morning: Starting the Day at Vintgar Gorge

We started our day near Lake Bled with a visit to Vintgar Gorge, one of Slovenia’s most beautiful natural attractions. Walking along the wooden pathways above the turquoise Radovna River was the perfect way to begin our adventure before heading towards Lake Bohinj.

After exploring the gorge, we continued our journey through the Julian Alps towards Lake Bohinj, surrounded by incredible mountain landscapes along the way.

Savica Waterfall: One of Lake Bohinj’s Highlights

Our first stop at Lake Bohinj was Savica Waterfall, one of the most famous waterfalls in Slovenia. A short uphill walk through the forest leads to a viewpoint where you can see the impressive waterfall surrounded by green mountains.

After the hike, we stopped at the nearby restaurant to enjoy a meal with beautiful views before continuing our day.

Vogel Ski Center: Mountain Views Above Lake Bohinj

Next, we considered visiting Vogel Ski Center, a popular spot above Lake Bohinj known for its incredible panoramic views over the lake and the Julian Alps.

We decided not to take the cable car ourselves, as it can be quite expensive, but it is definitely worth considering if you want to experience some of the best viewpoints and hiking trails in the area.

Afternoon: Walking Around Lake Bohinj

Back at the lake, we slowed down and enjoyed one of our favorite moments of the day: walking along the shore of Lake Bohinj. The peaceful atmosphere, crystal-clear water, and dramatic mountain backdrop make it easy to understand why this place is considered one of Slovenia’s most beautiful destinations.

Swimming & Relaxing at Lake Bohinj

Of course, no summer visit to Lake Bohinj is complete without swimming in its clear alpine water. After exploring all day, we found a quiet spot by the lake, relaxed in the sun, and enjoyed the incredible views surrounding us.
