Hum, Croatia

The smallest city in the world♥︎

Hum is a small romantic town, also known as the smallest town in the world. With its medieval cityscape it is a tourist attraction in western Croatia. It’s located approximately 14 km from Buzet in the hilly landscape of the Istria region. Around 26 people live in the place. Sometimes more, sometimes less. The picturesque place invites you to linger and stroll through the beautiful cobblestone streets.

A historic city wall surrounds most of the town, which is manageable with two alleys and three rows of houses, a small square and two churches. There are also great restaurants, souvenir shops, a small supermarket, a family distillery, a museum and stunning views. Hum also offers many opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking and cycling. When you come to Croatia you should definitely visit this place.

Why you should travel to Hum

Hum is truly one of a kind place. As the smallest town/city in the world, it feels incredibly special and full of character. Its stone streets, medieval houses and peaceful atmosphere make it a place where time seems to slow down. The views over the Istrian countryside are beautiful and worth the visit alone.

We especially enjoyed the local products like homemade rakija, truffles and olive oil, often sold by locals. Hum is also perfectly located for a road trip, just a short drive from places like Rovinj, Rijeka and Pula. Small, authentic and charming, Hum is a place you won’t forget quickly.
