Comino, Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon Experience♥︎

Comino is the smallest of the three Maltese islands. It is located between the two larger Maltese islands of Gozo and Malta. Comino can only be reached by boat. Ferries and small excursion boats travel to Comino daily (weather permitting) from the ferry ports in Għajnsielem (Mġarr) on Gozo and Ċirkewwa on Malta. Around three square kilometres in size and dotted with numerous caves, Comino is one of the most popular excursion destinations on Malta. A handful of people are said to live here and there is a hotel.

Comino is known and popular mainly because of the Blue Lagoon that is located here. It is an enchanting place with incredibly beautiful crystal clear water. Comino is a paradise for snorkeling, diving, windsurfing and hiking with idyllic paths. The entire island is car-free and there are a few sights on Comino. A chapel and an old watchtower are often excursion destinations.

Where is Comino?

Comino is a tiny island located between Malta and Gozo in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Even though it’s one of the smallest islands in the Maltese archipelago, it’s famous for its breathtaking natural beauty and crystal-clear waters.

What makes Comino so special is how untouched and peaceful it feels compared to the larger islands. With only a few buildings and hardly any or none permanent residents, the island is mostly known for the stunning Blue Lagoon, where bright turquoise water meets rocky cliffs and hidden coves. Welcome to Comino! ♥︎

The only way to get here is by ferry or small excursion boat. Boats go to the Blue Lagoon from Gozo (Mgarr) and Ċirkewwa. From Valletta, it is best to take a bus which takes around an hour to the port of Ċirkewwa. From here, the ferry takes around 15-20 minutes.

You can buy tickets either on site or online. From Gozo (Mgarr) a ticket cost 10€ per person for a round trip on a small ferry.

Usually the first ferry leaves at 8:00 in the morning and the last one, depending on the operator, usually between 16:00 and 18:00.
