Bran is a small municipality in Brașov County in the Transylvania region with around 5,000 inhabitants. The town is known for its eponymous Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle, a medieval fortress dating back to the 14th century. It gained worldwide fame through its association with the figure of Count Dracula, who plays a central role in Bram Stoker’s famous 1897 novel Dracula. Bran Castle is a Romanian landmark and sits perched on a cliff above the small town.

Bran is best reached by car, taxi, or bus. The small town is located about 30 kilometers from Brașov. From Bucharest, you can take the train to Brașov and then take the bus to the castle. From Brasov, the bus departs either every 30 minutes or every hour. A ticket costs a few Romanian leu (euros) and can be easily purchased from the bus driver.

There are paid parking spaces around the castle and the town. Typically, parking costs around 5 Romanian leu (approximately 1€) per hour. If you want to save money, you should park a little further away and walk to the castle.
You’ll usually be able to complete your tour of the castle in about 1-1.5 hours. Around the castle, there’s a large market that’s open daily and several good restaurants. So, you can easily spend 2-4 hours here.
