What to Do in Strasbourg
Boat Tour at „Captain Bretzel“
A great experience in Strasbourg is a trip on an electric boat along the river and the canals of the city. At Captain Bretzel you can rent boats and drive them yourself or book a guided tour. Great snacks and good drinks make the trip even more perfect.
An electric boat for up to five people costs around 40€ per hour and can be paid on site in cash or by card.
Eat a Tarte Flambée
One thing you definitely have to try when you come to Strasbourg is a tarte flambée. It is a flat, thin dough with various toppings. The classic Alsatian style is topped with raw onions, bacon and a cream made from sour cream that is only lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. There are many restaurants in the city that serve tarte flambée and it costs around 10€.
Visit the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg
When you’re here, you can’t miss the Strasbourg Cathedral. It is one of the most important and impressive church buildings in Europe and, with its 142-meter-high tower, is the landmark of Strasbourg and overlooks the Alsace region. Inside there are many sculptures, beautiful large stained glass windows and unique carved columns.
Strolling around Strasbourg
It’s also nice to just stroll through the city and discover something new on every corner. There are also beautiful parks and other great places along the river where you can linger. The cute little streets with the typical houses make the place a top travel destination in France.
Visit la Petite France
Probably the most beautiful place in Strasbourg is the old tanners’ quarter “La Petit France”. The quarter with old half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries is a beautiful place that, together with the old town, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also called Little Venice and there are many cute, small, fancy and beautiful restaurants and café’s here.
Go to the Barrage Vauban
It is a bridge, a defensive structure and a weir that was built in the 17th century on the River Ill in the city of Strasbourg. The 120 m long lock bridge is very impressive and you can see the age of the city. From the roof terrace of the Barrage Vauban you have great views of the tanners’ quarter “La Petit France”. Definitely one of the most beautiful places in Strasbourg.
Eat a delicious croissant & get a lovely coffee
