The old town of Sibiu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has beautiful medieval buildings, narrow streets and unique bridges, such as the Bridge of Lies.
Here you will also find a lively cultural scene, with regular events and festivals. Sibiu is lined with countless cute café’s, restaurants and bars. Especially around the center, the square Great Square (Piata Mare) is a very lively part of the city. In earlier times, the upper and lower towns were protected by three rings of walls with 39 towers and many large gates, some of which are still there. Sibiu is well connected to other cities in Romania and has an international airport. By bus and train it takes around 5 hours to get from Bucharest to Sibiu. Flights usually go via Bucharest or destinations in Germany.
The best time to travel is between April and October. The temperatures are warm and the risk of rainfall is quite low. However, in the months of July and August it can also be very hot and crowded.
Overall, Sibiu is not expensive compared to many western cities. It offers good value for money, both in terms of living costs and leisure activities. However, if you are in the city center, it can be a bit more expensive.
