Perched between dramatic mountain landscapes and the crystal-clear waters of the Albanian Riviera, Dhermi feels like one of Europe’s last hidden coastal escapes. From quiet stone streets and whitewashed churches to turquoise beaches and unforgettable sunsets, this small seaside village instantly slowed us down and completely stole our hearts.
There’s a unique rhythm here where mornings start slow in the mountains and days drift effortlessly toward the sea. And somehow, every turn in the village feels like it leads to another view you want to remember forever.

Dhermi is a small coastal village located on the Albanian Riviera in southern Albania, along the Ionian Sea. It sits between the Llogara mountains and the coastline, roughly halfway between the cities of Vlora and Saranda. Tucked into the hillside, Dhermi belongs to the Vlorë County and is known for its dramatic setting where steep green mountains drop directly into turquoise water.
The nearest major airport is in Tirana, and from there it takes around 3 to 3.5 hours by car to reach Dhermi, depending on traffic and the winding coastal mountain roads. The drive itself is part of the experience, especially when crossing the Llogara Pass with panoramic views over the sea.
Getting to Dhermi is part of the adventure. Located along the Albanian Riviera between the mountains and the Ionian Sea, the village feels wonderfully hidden while still being relatively easy to reach from Tirana, Vlorë or Saranda.
During the summer season, buses regularly connect Dhermi with Tirana, Vlorë and Saranda. It’s the most budget-friendly option, although schedules can sometimes change and journeys take a little longer than by car.
Taxis and private transfers are the easiest and most comfortable option if you don’t want to drive yourself. Many travelers book transfers directly from Tirana Airport, especially for late arrivals or shorter stays.
But it is probably the most expensive option.
🚗 Arriving by Car in Dhermi!?
Driving is by far the best way to reach Dhermi and explore the Riviera at your own pace. The road along the coast is incredibly scenic, especially when crossing the famous Llogara Pass with panoramic sea views. From Tirana, the drive usually takes around 3 to 3.5 hours.
The final drive into Dhermi is stunning but also quite narrow and steep in some areas, especially inside the old mountain village. Parking near the beaches can fill up quickly during summer, so arriving earlier in the day makes things much easier. Luckily, there are several small parking areas throughout the village and near the coastline.
👉 Tip: If you’re driving from Vlorë towards Dhermi, don’t miss the famous Llogara Pass. The winding mountain road offers some of the most breathtaking views along the Albanian Riviera, where dramatic cliffs suddenly open up to endless turquoise sea views. It’s easily one of the most scenic drives in Albania and absolutely worth a few photo stops along the way.
One of the best things to do in Dhermi is simply getting lost in the old mountain village. Narrow stone streets, traditional houses, small churches and hidden viewpoints give the village its unique charm, especially during golden hour.

Dhermi is famous for its crystal-clear beaches and turquoise water. Spend the day swimming, relaxing by the sea or discovering smaller hidden beaches along the coastline. Some beaches are lively during summer, while others feel surprisingly peaceful and untouched.
👉 Good to know: The beaches are very crowded, especially in summer, and almost completely full of sun loungers and parasols. You can rent sunbeds and loungers for around €10-20. Therefore, be sure to also check out other beaches in the region, which are usually a bit less crowded.
Sunset in Dhermi feels magical. Whether you’re enjoying dinner with a view, walking through the village or sitting near the coast, the warm evening light over the mountains and sea creates unforgettable scenery.
👉 Good to know: Generally, you can watch the sunset from almost anywhere. But especially from restaurant terraces or small squares in the city center.

One of our favorite experiences in Dhermi was having dinner at Zoe Hora. Perched high above the village, this beautiful boutique hotel and restaurant offers incredible panoramic views over the mountains, stone houses and the Ionian Sea.
The atmosphere feels peaceful and romantic, especially around sunset when the entire village starts glowing in warm golden light. Whether you’re staying at the hotel or simply coming for dinner, Zoe Hora is easily one of the most special places to eat in Dhermi.
We’d recommend arriving a little before sunset to fully enjoy the view with a drink before dinner. Between the stylish stone architecture, relaxed ambiance and unforgettable scenery, this place perfectly captures the magic of the Albanian Riviera.

Our first night at Zoe Hora felt like staying in a quiet world above everything else. Built into the hillside of the old village, it blends stone architecture with modern design, infinity pools and panoramic views over Dhermi and the Albanian Riviera.
It’s the kind of place where you slow down instantly, sunsets from the terrace, dinner overlooking the lights of the village, and a calm atmosphere that feels far away from the beach crowds below.

Our second stay at Roots Dhermi Apartment felt completely different, more authentic, simple and local. Nestled inside the old village, it gives you the feeling of actually living in Dhermi rather than just visiting.
Waking up to mountain views, opening the windows to the sea breeze, and watching the sunset from the room made it one of the most memorable stays of the trip. It’s cozy, minimal and perfectly located to explore the stone streets above the coast.

If you prefer being right by the water, the beach area of Dhermi also offers modern hotels, beach resorts and apartments just steps from the sea. This is where you’ll find beach clubs, restaurants and a more social summer atmosphere.

When you think of Dhermi, you probably imagine crystal-clear water, white pebbles and dramatic mountain backdrops and honestly, it’s exactly like that. The beaches here are some of the most beautiful along the Albanian Riviera, each with its own vibe, from lively beach clubs to hidden coves that feel completely untouched.
Gjipe Beach feels like a hidden paradise. Surrounded by dramatic canyon walls, it can be reached by boat or via a scenic hike. There are no large hotels here, just nature, tranquility, and some of the clearest water in Albania, perfect for a complete escape.
👉 Good to know: There’s a large parking lot here, which costs around 500 LEK (€5). From there, you’ll need to walk to the beach, which takes about 20-30 minutes.
A bit more lively, Jalë Beach is popular with younger travelers thanks to its beach bars, music and summer parties. The water is beautiful and the atmosphere is fun without feeling overwhelming.
Just a short drive from Dhermi, Aquarium Beach is a tiny hidden cove that feels almost unreal. The name comes from its incredibly clear, bright turquoise water that looks like a natural swimming pool.
Unlike the larger beaches nearby, Aquarium Beach is small, quiet and more secluded, with a relaxed, untouched atmosphere.
It’s not the easiest beach to access, which is exactly what keeps it peaceful, but if you’re exploring the Albanian Riviera, it’s definitely worth adding to your list.
Dhermi is one of those places that feels simple once you’re there, but a few small tips can make your trip a lot smoother, especially during the busy summer months along the Albanian Riviera.
The best time to visit Dhermi is from May to early October. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with a lively beach atmosphere. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, June or September are perfect, warm water, fewer crowds and softer light for sunsets.
We visited Albania and Dhermi in September. It was the perfect time not only for Dhermi, but also for the whole country.
A car is the most convenient way to explore Dhermi and the surrounding Riviera. It gives you full freedom to visit hidden beaches, mountain villages and viewpoints. Within the village itself, everything is walkable, but some streets can be steep and narrow.
Parking near the beach can get crowded in peak season, especially in the afternoons. It’s usually easier to arrive earlier in the day or use designated parking areas slightly above the coastline and walk down.
One of the best things about Dhermi is how many beaches are nearby. Don’t stay in just one place, the coastline is full of hidden coves, beach clubs and quiet spots just a short drive away.
